MADISON-GLUCKSTADT ROTARY CLUB AWARDS

SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENT AWARD

We won the 2008-2009 Rotary International Significant Accomplishment Award for our canned good/non-perishable food drive for MadCAAP in September, 2008, making the first time a club in District 6820 has EVER won this coveted award. We brought in 76 bags of groceries which totalled over 1000 food items to feed the neediest residents of Madison County and look forward to working with MadCAAP again this year.

PRESIDENTIAL CITATION

Of the 44 clubs in District 6820, we were one of only six clubs that qualified for this award in 2008-2009, which is based upon meeting goals in membership, club service, vocational service, community service, and international service.  This was the fifth straight year for our club to win the Presidential Citation.

Here's what we're doing to qualify for the Presidential Citation for 2009-2010

1.  Membership

• Net growth of at least one member per year.
• We increased the diversity of our club membership by adding 3 different members in underrepresented areas.

2.  Club Service

• Mark McGuffee attended PETS in Spring, 2010.
• We will renew a subscription of The Rotarian to the Camden Elementary School.

3. Community Service

• We doubled our efforts in the Dictionary Project by adding two more schools. This fiscal year, we are conducting four Dictionary Projects, at two elementary schools in West Jackson and two Madison County Schools.
• A gift certificate in the amount of $250 from The Bookshelf in Ridgeland, payable to each of the schools we partner with on the dictionary project, for a total of $1,000.00.
• Thanksgiving project with MadCAAP where we raised over $400.00 to provide Thanksgiving dinners to needy families in the Madison County area.

4. International Service 

• We donated $1000.00 to fund four cleft palate surgeries. Once received, the money will be sent through Claire's Bears and the surgeries will be for children in a third-world country. Note: Because this money is matched, dollar for dollar, by The Cleft Palate Association, our donation will mean $2000 and a total of eight surgeries.
